On 21st July 2026, we were honoured to host the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Office of the President, Rt.Hon Eng Asiimwe Jonard, at the RENU Offices in Makerere University.
During the Digital Technologies, Artificial Intelligence and National Compute Infrastructure session at the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT), RENU showcased the National AI Research Cloud, demonstrating how national digital infrastructure is enabling AI research and applications in health, agriculture, climate, cybersecurity, and public service delivery. The session also highlighted discussions on AI governance, data access, operational sustainability, and scaling AI nationally.

The Minister toured RENU Labs and explored locally developed innovations supporting research, education, and digital transformation. He also interacted with RENU’s industrial trainees, learning how the program equips university students with practical experience in emerging technologies and digital infrastructure.
The visit reaffirmed the importance of investing in digital infrastructure, innovation, and talent development to accelerate Uganda’s science, technology, and innovation agenda.
We are very grateful to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe and his leadership for having enabled this.
