Uganda’s higher education institutions are required by the Ministry of Education and Sports to implement a new Competence-Based Education and Training (CBET) curriculum in 2027, with the main objective being to equip learners with critical thinking, and practical, industry-relevant skills, thereby reducing youth unemployment and building a workforce that’s ready to drive Uganda’s economic transformation.
This calls for strengthening the connection between academia and industry.
To support Uganda’s higher education institutions in rolling out and implementing the new CBET curriculum, RENU will expand its Industrial Training Program from accommodating only 10 students annually to at least 200 students each year. RENU’s Industrial Training Program provides university students with structured, hands-on workplace experience in ICT, digital technologies and other fields, enabling them to apply classroom knowledge, develop industry-relevant skills, and prepare for careers in research, education, and the digital economy.
For over 10 years, RENU has prepared university students with practical industry experience in various fields, and more than 100 students have benefitted from the program since inception.
