On 18th October 2024, the Research and Education Network for Uganda (RENU) was honored to be recognized as the best in Uganda in the Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SME) category at the prestigious Corporate Governance Awards. The event, organized by the Institute of Corporate Governance of Uganda (ICGU), took place at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel during the 3rd Annual Corporate Governance Awards.

In addition to RENU’s recognition, several other leading organizations were celebrated at the event. Uganda Breweries Limited received the award for Large Private Sector Enterprise and was honored with the coveted Overall Corporate Governance Award. Stanbic Bank Uganda topped the Banks & Microfinance Institutions (MBIs) category and also received the Resilience Award, while UAP Old Mutual secured first place in the Insurance Companies category, among others.
This year’s event, themed “Recognizing Resilience and Sustainable Impact,” honored organizations that have demonstrated exceptional corporate governance practices, promoting transparency, accountability, and strong leadership across various sectors. The theme also underscored the importance of resilience and sustainability, especially in the post-pandemic era, where adaptability and long-term impact are crucial to organizational success.
Winning the SME category is a testament to RENU’s commitment to strong governance. As a not-for-profit organization serving education and research institutions, RENU has consistently prioritized transparency, accountability, and ethical leadership. These values are deeply embedded in every aspect of the organization’s operations and service delivery. Key governance practices, including robust decision-making processes, financial accountability, the integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, and a steadfast commitment to ethical standards, have been pivotal in RENU’s sustainable growth over the years.
We congratulate the current RENU Board headed by Rev. Prof. John Mulindwa Kitayimbwa, for this well-deserved recognition and extend our appreciation to the previous Boards whose visionary leadership laid the foundation for the strong governance structures RENU maintains today.
