The On Friday, 9th May 2025, RENU together with Consortium of Uganda University Libraries (CUUL) held an Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID) Workshop under the theme “Connecting Identities, Empowering Research” at Hotel Africana.
ORCID is a strong tool that promotes open science, by providing a unique, persistent identifier for researchers, helping to connect them with their work and foster greater transparency, collaboration, and visibility in research.
The workshop brought together librarians and researchers from member universities and research institutes to discuss the importance of establishing an ORCID consortium in Uganda. The conversation centered on simplifying identity management across research platforms and exploring the critical role of persistent identifiers in enhancing digital scholarship and research visibility.
Through this collaboration, RENU and CUUL are working together to improve access to digital resources, promote digitisation, and support the global visibility of Uganda’s research output. ORCID adoption is a key step in ensuring our researchers are discoverable, connected, and visible in the global research ecosystem.
