RIF
Why RIF?
RIF provides a simple avenue for users from research and education institutions to securely and reliably access and share resources locally and globally with other institutions that subscribe to other identity federations which collaborate with RENU. Through eduGAIN, member institutions can access over 8,000 Identity and Service Providers.
The RENU Identity Federation (RIF) was established in August 2016 to enable RENU member institutions to securely and reliably access and share resources (services and content) over the NREN and other data networks in Uganda and the world over.
Through RIF, students, researchers, and academics gain access to a multitude of services using a unified institutional account, thereby minimizing the need to manage multiple user accounts. This not only reduces complexity but also mitigates security risks associated with maintaining numerous user accounts separately.
Visit the RIF site to find out more.
An institution can apply to join (download form) the RENU Identity Federation (RIF) as an Identity Provider (IdP) or a Service Provider (SP).
Only RENU member institutions can join RIF as Identity Providers (IdPs). However, to join RIF as a Service Provider (SP), an institution, organization, or company DOES NOT have to first subscribe to RENU membership.
Access to resources federated through RENU is governed by the RENU Identity Federation Policy. Metadata registration in RIF is governed by the RIF Metadata Registration Practice Statement.
RIF Impact
