In April 2016, video and web conferencing were launched as a service for member institutions connected to the RENU network. In 2018, Mconf was implemented as a web conferencing platform on the RENU network.
Mconf is an open source tool that provides a unique collaborative experience that supports a variety of meeting formats and HD video collaboration services on and off campus to everyone: students, faculty, staff and outside guests.
Shared lectures across multiple campuses of a given university, or even across different universities, are now a reality for all member institutions connected to the RENU network. Some face-to-face meetings can also be replaced by the RENU web conferencing solution.
To set up meeting rooms, the interested member institution has to contact the RENU Secretariat. Once the room is set up, it can be accessed by anyone anywhere in the world, without requiring sign up or opening an account, as long as they are authorised by the member institution that manages the meeting room. Access to the meeting rooms is also possible by authentication through Identity Providers (IdPs) under the RENU Identity Federation (RIF).
